A car fire report led firefighters to the scene of a blaze that destroyed much of a two-row, three-story timber frame townhouse project in the Willoughby area of ​​Langley on Saturday afternoon June 26.

Langley Township Deputy Fire Chief Andy Hewitson said Langley Advance Times crews were dispatched to report a car fire around 1:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 80th Avenue and 204th Street and quickly located a column of smoke from the 50-unit Skylark. development on 80th avenue.

Several teams and vehicles, including firefighters from Langley City, joined in the fight, struggling to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighboring properties.

A firefighter could be seen spraying a neighboring house east of the burning buildings.

A house near the project suffered undetermined damage, Hewitson said.

A resident said he heard what appeared to be propane tanks explode and charred wood from the blaze landed near his residence, more than a block away.

A video of a passerby from Mariana, taken during the first moments of the blaze, showed smoke and flames emitted from the first row of houses.

Forty firefighters fought in temperatures of nearly 40 degrees.

No injuries were reported

Hewitson said the entire project is likely a write-off.

“One row is completely destroyed, the other is a teardown,” Hewitson commented.

The townhouses of the project were already on presale.

Saturday’s fire was right on the road to the April 19 fire that ravaged the Alexander Square condo complex under construction at 208th Street and 80th Avenue, leaving behind only two elevator shafts and relocating several residents of the area.

Traffic was blocked in both directions on 80th Avenue.

Fire investigators have been called.
