College officials sent a message to students on Wednesday evening, saying:

Recent media coverage reported an incident on our campus. Early Tuesday morning, University Police responded to an incident at one of our halls of residence. The officers involved quickly identified the presence of a weapon. The weapon was seized and the individual responsible was apprehended.

It is important to note that the incident was isolated and targeted, and was resolved quickly and successfully by our university police officers. There was no threat to the larger campus community. Out of concern for the victimized student’s privacy and the sensitive nature of the incident, a broader campus message was not sent on the day of the incident.

I would like to take this opportunity to commend our University Police and Residential Life staff for responding quickly to resolve the situation without further incident. This incident proves that dedicated and well-trained staff are working together to ensure the continued safety of our campus community. We have security measures and systems in place at all times to deal with incidents as they occur.
