Man arrested for alleged rape in Dixie State University dorm

ST. Georges, Utah – Dixie State University police arrested a man for rape after a woman said she awoke to find him sexually assaulting her.

Police exercised a search warrant at Donovan James Prichett’s apartment to gather evidence. He was taken into custody at his place of employment, taken to a police station, advised of his rights, arrested on suspicion of rape, and taken to Washington County Jail without incident.

The investigation began when a woman, who had recently ended a months-long romance with Prichett, contacted police and told them she had gone to his apartment on campus because he had Christmas gifts for her. She said she told him she didn’t want to engage in any type of sexual contact and ended their relationship due to different religious values.

She said she fell asleep in her bed and between midnight and 2 a.m. she woke up to be raped. She said they ended the relationship due to differences in their religious beliefs and values, according to probable cause documents filed in St. George’s Fifth District Court.

The woman showed police an exchange of text messages after the night at her apartment.

Pritchett: “I know I screwed up, I know it’s inexcusable, and I know I can fix it,” but offered to help the victim with anything she needed.

The victim, who was not named by KSL, replied, “Okay, if I still have to get raped, I’ll let you know.”

Pritchett: “I deserve all the abuse and stuff. But I will always be there.

After the woman made the police report, they obtained a warrant and recovered items from her room, which was part of a dorm in the Campus View II apartments. Officers used a body camera to film the room and seized sheets, pillowcases, blankets, used condoms and wrappers. Investigators sent him messages advising him that a warrant was being served at his apartment and instructed him to return home.

“f*** off pig,” he replied to the police.

KSL, by policy, does not reveal the identity of victims of sexual assault. Pritchett is presumed innocent until found guilty by a court. Dixie State University will change its name on July 1.

Pritchett was arrested Jan. 14 on suspicion of first-degree rape.
