Hurricane Elsa could impact the site of the Surfside condominium collapse

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on Friday the state was preparing for Hurricane Elsa to strike early next week, which could potentially hamper rescue efforts at the site of the Surfside collapse, in Florida.

As many of you know, Tropical Storm Elsa has now become Hurricane Elsa, and we are working – I have ordered our Emergency Management Department to start preparing for a potential state of emergency. We don’t know exactly which route this will take. We may be able to see tropical force winds as early as Sunday evening in South Florida. And so we are actively monitoring the situation as we always would with these storms. But given what we do on this site, we are also paying close attention to any impact that may occur here in northeast Miami-Dade County. It is possible that this area will experience a tropical storm, tropical storm force winds – this is not guaranteed, but it is possible. And so our emergency management department assumes that will happen and makes the necessary preparations so that we can, obviously, protect a lot of the equipment. You could also have an event with the building. So we’re going as we normally would with these things. This is exactly what we are doing. But we’re adding this special emphasis to this site because we understand the sensitivities involved.
