Explore Elkin: Building on Success

More than 200 people gathered Thursday for the Explore Elkin annual meeting and update session.

A lot can happen in five years – and last week Explore Elkin supporters and officials came together to celebrate what the organization has achieved in that time and what the group plans for the season. future.

The Explore Elkin project began in 2017 and has spent the past five years building its brand “and that’s what we are…a brand,” said Jeff Eidson, chair of the Explore Elkin committee. That mark, he told more than 200 people gathered Thursday night, has helped attract visitors, residents and new business developments to the city.

Thursday’s rally was an opportunity for Eidson to update area residents and “explorers” — people who donated money to the cause — to hear updates on the NC event. Trail Days as well as the Explore Elkin organization.

After the event, Natalie Eidson made some more detailed comments about the organization.

She said the group advertised in various print and broadcast media to attract people to Elkin, which helped attract out-of-town shoppers and visitors.

But, she said, the best return on their efforts so far has been good old-fashioned word of mouth, aided greatly by the strategic use of social media.

“The best thing anyone can do for the community is to share all the great things we have and tell their friends and family about them in person and through social media,” she said. , adding that social media had been “huge” to get the word out.

Getting that word out brings visitors to the town – some of whom may become regular visitors, a few may become full-time residents – and this increased traffic to downtown Elkin helps drive business growth. .

“There have been a handful of new business openings, including others closer to opening, that might not have been here and have lasted this long without the constant activity that is happening. is currently taking place downtown from Explore Elkin events,” said Natalie Eidson.

She quickly recited a list of businesses that have opened downtown since 2019, including: Yellow Door Cafe, New 2 U Consignment, Honeysuckle Home, Heart and Soul of The Yadkin Valley, Inspired Creations by Pamela, One By Prism, Ohana Nutrition, White Rose Beauty Studio, The Wisdom Table, Patti’s Shoe Repair, American Aquatic, Elkin Vine Line, Lifestore, Gwyn and Market, The Smoothie Station, The Bakery, Fruition and more to come: Unity tabletop Gaming, Elkin Railyard, Three Trails Boutique Hotel.

“I think Explore Elkin has had an impact on Elkin by being a cheerleader for all the successes in our community over the past five years,” she said of her organization’s efforts. “We’ve been able to create a stronger sense of community and help facilitate connections between people and businesses that may not have been possible before.

“It’s pretty hard to say ‘there’s nothing more to do in Elkin’, and we make sure everyone knows everything Elkin has to offer. I think the marketing of Explore Elkin has helped other people find Elkin as a great place to relocate and raise their family as well.
